About Me

I’ll live or die by my own ideas.
— Johan Cruyff

I was an undistinguished club and high school goalkeeper who became interested in coaching during college. After reconnecting with my former coach, I became an assistant with the Ernest Righetti High School girls varsity team, before taking over as coach of the JV team. Enamored with the profession, I began coaching club soccer San Luis Obispo Soccer Club with a boys U14 team. In the summer of 2017, I joined Paul Holocher at the San Jose Earthquakes and worked in the youth club and Development Academy. Currently, I am a coach and a director at Los Gatos United, working alongside Shaun Tsakiris and Shawn Blakeman. I graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in June of 2015 with a degree in Political Science.

I've been heavily influenced by Pep Guardiola's Barcelona team (2008-2012) and their possession-based style centered around coordinated team actions. The type of soccer I strive for is one that prioritizes possession through cohesive, rehearsed team movement. When we possess the ball, the whole team is expected to contribute to the retention of possession. Through possession and coordinated ball movement, we seek to disorganize the opponent, and attack. When possession is lost, the team is expected to put maximum pressure on the ball while simultaneously protecting the goal. As coach, my primary aim is to educate and teach players my style of play, and train their reactions and reading of the game so these collective actions become instinctive.

About the Site

In my blog, I will focus on sharing my coaching process by delving into the details that are important to me within training and matches, not just during a single session or game, but across a broader body of work as well.

In the 'Videos' section, you will find an assortment of match and training footage accompanied by a small description. Some videos will have a link if they are related to a blog post.

I created this site to connect with other coaches and soccer people, and to share my process of training and molding a team to play the style of soccer I believe in. This site is also intended to display my work as a coach, and serve as a modern résumé for potential employers within the soccer world.
